Münster harbour: industry becomes culture
Münster harbour: industry becomes culture
Since the mid-1990s, Münster’s city harbour has developed from an industrial goods handling area into a leisure and recreation district. Granaries and warehouses have been transformed into exhibition spaces and restaurants with a charming view of the harbour basin. Numerous cultural and gastronomic establishments, event venues and office buildings have settled on what is known as the “Kreativkai” (“creative quay”), whose modern architecture adds to the special charm of Münster harbour.
Today, the harbour promenade, with its pubs, cafes, restaurants and clubs, is a popular urban meeting place, especially for the young people of Münster, who spend warm summer evenings strolling along the banks of the Dortmund-Ems Canal or relaxing in the beach bars with a cool drink in hand and their feet in the sand.
